Data: 53% of American adults believe that cultural immersion is crucial when traveling.

It should come as no surprise that Americans are becoming more interested in seeing different cultures when choosing a holiday spot, according to the most recent Travel Horizons poll by MMGY Global Travel Intelligence.

More than half of American adults (53 percent) said it is crucial to learn about new cultures and acquire perspective on different ways of life when traveling, according to a survey of 2,301 adults in the country. Sixty-five percent of Millennials and 53 percent of Gen Xers think this discovery is significant.

Additionally, 58 percent of American people think it is essential to learn about the culture of the place they are traveling to. Half wish to spend time with locals from the destination (48 percent) or learn about a new culture that differs from their own (53 percent). Almost four out of ten U.S. adults (36 percent) had a new opinion of them after traveling to a foreign country and meeting its citizens. Four out of ten (39 percent) believed they shared many societal values, and half (50 percent) felt a strong affection for the people.
